5 Day Kilimanjaro Private Summit Climb
The 5 Day Kilimanjaro Private Summit Climb is a private Mount Kilimanjaro adventure designed for climbers who want their own dedicated trekking party and mountain crew while following the classic Marangu Route.
The climb begins at Marangu Gate and progresses through several of Mount Kilimanjaro's major ecological zones before reaching the high altitude summit environment.
Unlike many Kilimanjaro routes that use camping tents, the Marangu Route provides permanent mountain hut accommodation at Mandara Hut, Horombo Hut and Kibo Hut.
A private climb means your trekking party is limited to the travellers included in your booking together with the required professional guides, cook and porters.
The summit attempt normally begins around midnight from Kibo Hut and climbs toward Gilman's Point on the crater rim.
Climbers who remain strong and are considered safe to continue can proceed toward Uhuru Peak at approximately 5,895 metres above sea level.
After the summit attempt, the route descends to Horombo Hut before returning to Marangu Gate on the final trekking day.
The standard five day itinerary does not include the additional acclimatization day normally found on the six day Marangu itinerary.

DAY
04
KIBO HUT – UHURU PEAK – HOROMBO HUT
Private Kilimanjaro Summit Attempt
Day four is the main summit day of the 5 Day Kilimanjaro Private Summit Climb.
Climbers normally wake around midnight, have a light meal and prepare for several hours of climbing through darkness and cold temperatures.
Your private summit team begins climbing slowly above Kibo Hut using headlamps.
The guide manages the pace carefully and continually evaluates your condition as the altitude increases.
Private Summit Route
- Depart Kibo Hut around midnight
- Climb slowly toward the crater rim
- Reach Gilman's Point at approximately 5,681 metres if safely possible
- Continue around the crater rim when conditions allow
- Attempt Uhuru Peak at approximately 5,895 metres
- Descend toward Kibo Hut
- Rest briefly before continuing to Horombo Hut
Reaching Gilman's Point is already a significant high altitude achievement.
If you remain physically strong and your guide considers it safe, continue toward Uhuru Peak.
Uhuru Peak stands at approximately 5,895 metres and is the highest point on Mount Kilimanjaro and the African continent.
Time at the summit is usually short because of altitude, cold temperatures and the need to descend safely.
Return toward Kibo Hut and continue descending to Horombo Hut for your final mountain night.
Private Climb Safety Comes First
A private climbing arrangement provides individual attention but cannot guarantee Uhuru Peak. Altitude symptoms, weather, illness, injury or exhaustion may require an earlier descent.
Your guide's safety decision always takes priority over continuing toward the summit.
Accommodation
Horombo Hut.
Meals
Breakfast, lunch and dinner according to the summit schedule.
Highest Point
Uhuru Peak, approximately 5,895 metres if safely reached.
DAY
05
HOROMBO HUT – MARANGU GATE
Private Final Descent to Marangu Gate
After breakfast, begin the final descent toward Marangu Gate with your private mountain team.
The route descends through the heath and moorland before returning to the rainforest environment.
Although the final stage is mostly downhill, tired legs and slippery forest sections can still make walking demanding.
Day 5 Trek Details
- Starting elevation: approximately 3,720 metres
- Finishing elevation: approximately 1,860 metres
- Approximate distance: around 20 kilometres
- Typical trekking time: approximately 5 to 7 hours
