7 Day Serengeti Wildlife Safari

The 7 Day Serengeti Wildlife Safari is designed for travellers who want to spend an entire week focused on the Serengeti ecosystem rather than dividing their safari time among several national parks.

The itinerary provides extended wildlife viewing across open grasslands, acacia woodland, rocky kopjes, river corridors and seasonal grazing areas.

Possible wildlife includes lions, cheetahs, leopards, hyenas, wildebeest, zebra, elephants, giraffes, buffalo, gazelles, warthogs and numerous bird species.

The Serengeti is also internationally associated with the Great Migration, although the location of the main wildebeest and zebra herds changes according to rainfall, water and fresh grazing.

The route can be arranged privately or as a group joining safari where a compatible confirmed departure is available.

Accommodation can include camping, practical lodges, permanent tented properties or higher comfort accommodation according to the confirmed safari package.

Wildlife remains natural and free ranging, so no individual species, predator encounter, migration concentration, hunting event or river crossing can be guaranteed.

Why Choose a 7 Day Serengeti Wildlife Safari?

The main advantage of the seven day itinerary is the amount of time dedicated to one ecosystem.

Rather than travelling rapidly between several parks, the safari provides several complete Serengeti wildlife days.

This can be particularly useful for travellers interested in predators, wildlife photography, birdlife, animal behaviour and seasonal herd movement.

Additional time also provides flexibility when wildlife activity is lower in one particular area or during one particular day.

Main Serengeti Safari Highlights

  • Seven safari days focused on Serengeti
  • Five full Serengeti wildlife game drive days
  • Open plains and acacia landscapes
  • Rocky kopjes
  • Lion viewing opportunities
  • Possible cheetah and leopard encounters
  • Hyenas and other predators
  • Wildebeest and zebra
  • Possible Great Migration activity
  • Professional safari guiding

Serengeti National Park

Serengeti is the only major national park included in this specific seven day itinerary.

Its size and ecological diversity make it suitable for a longer wildlife safari.

Different areas can contain open plains, acacia woodland, kopjes, river systems and seasonal grazing environments.

Spending several days in the park allows travellers to appreciate changing landscapes and wildlife activity rather than seeing only one small section.

Serengeti Plains

The open plains are among the most recognisable Serengeti landscapes.

Wildebeest, zebra, gazelles and other herbivores may occur across these areas.

Predators such as lions, cheetahs and hyenas may use the same habitats where prey species are available.

Rocky Kopjes

Kopjes are rocky formations rising above sections of the Serengeti plains.

Wildlife may use them for shade, resting areas and elevated viewpoints.

Lions may sometimes be encountered around kopje habitats, although no sighting can be guaranteed.

Lions in Serengeti

Lions are among Serengeti’s most recognised predators.

They may occur in prides, smaller groups or as solitary animals.

They may rest in open grassland, around rocky kopjes or close to areas containing prey.

Multiple game drive days provide repeated opportunities to search suitable lion habitats, but no specific pride or behaviour can be guaranteed.

Cheetahs in Serengeti

Cheetahs may occur in open habitats where long visibility supports their hunting strategy.

Their distribution changes according to prey availability and natural movement.

The longer itinerary provides additional opportunities to explore suitable cheetah habitat.

Leopards in Serengeti

Leopards occur within Serengeti but can be difficult to locate because of their secretive behaviour.

They may use woodland, river corridors, trees and areas with denser vegetation.

Seven days provides more opportunities to search suitable habitat but does not guarantee a leopard sighting.

Hyenas and Other Predators

Hyenas are an important part of Serengeti’s predator and scavenger community.

They may be encountered hunting, feeding, resting or moving between wildlife areas.

Other smaller carnivores may also be observed depending on the habitat and time of day.

Wildebeest and Zebra

Wildebeest and zebra are central to the Serengeti ecosystem.

Their distribution changes according to rainfall, grazing conditions, water availability and seasonal movement.

They may occur in smaller resident groups or large concentrations depending on the location and time of year.

Great Migration Opportunities

The Serengeti ecosystem is internationally recognised for the seasonal movement of large wildebeest and zebra herds.

The location of these herds changes according to rainfall, water availability, fresh grazing and natural movement.

The Great Migration does not follow an exact fixed calendar.

A seven day safari provides substantial Serengeti wildlife time but cannot guarantee that the main migration concentrations will be located in the particular game drive areas visited.

River crossings remain especially unpredictable.

Great Migration Sightings Depend on Natural Conditions

Extended Serengeti time can provide more opportunities to search for migrating wildebeest and zebra, but rainfall, fresh grazing and natural herd behaviour determine where the main concentrations are located.

Elephants in Serengeti

Elephants occur across several Serengeti habitats.

They may move through woodland, open plains and areas close to water.

Family groups and individual elephants may both be encountered according to natural movement.

Giraffes and Buffalo

Giraffes may be encountered around acacia woodland and open landscapes.

Buffalo can occur individually or in groups depending on habitat and water availability.

Both species provide additional wildlife variety during extended Serengeti game drives.

Gazelles and Antelope

Gazelles and other antelope species form an important part of the Serengeti plains ecosystem.

They also provide prey for cheetahs, lions and other predators.

Their distribution can therefore influence predator movement and wildlife interactions.

Birdwatching in Serengeti

Serengeti provides extensive birdwatching opportunities across grassland, woodland, rocky and river habitats.

Travellers particularly interested in birds can communicate this to their guide.

A longer safari provides more time to appreciate smaller wildlife rather than focusing only on large mammals.

Wildlife Behaviour

One advantage of spending a full week in Serengeti is the additional opportunity to observe wildlife behaviour.

Travellers may see feeding, resting, territorial movement, herd interactions, predator movement or social behaviour depending on natural conditions.

No specific interaction or hunting event can be scheduled in advance.

Professional Safari Guide

A professional safari guide manages transportation, park navigation, wildlife interpretation and game drive planning.

The guide uses experience and current conditions to select suitable wildlife areas within the confirmed route.

Seven safari days create more opportunities to balance predator searches, photography, birdwatching and landscape exploration.

Safari Vehicle

The safari is normally operated using a 4x4 safari vehicle suitable for Serengeti wildlife viewing according to the confirmed package.

A viewing roof can improve visibility and photography during game drives.

The exact seating arrangement depends on traveller numbers and whether the safari is private or group joining.

Private 7 Day Serengeti Wildlife Safari

A private safari provides a dedicated vehicle and professional guide for the confirmed travelling party.

This can provide greater privacy and flexibility around wildlife interests, photography and general game drive pacing within park regulations.

The per person price normally changes according to the number of travellers sharing the private vehicle.

Group Joining Serengeti Wildlife Safari

A group joining version may be available on selected confirmed departure dates.

Participants share the vehicle, professional guide and general itinerary with other travellers.

Group size, vehicle seating, departure dates and accommodation arrangements should be confirmed before booking.

Serengeti Wildlife Safari for Solo Travellers

Solo travellers can request a private safari or join a compatible confirmed Serengeti departure where space is available.

A shared departure can provide a different per person cost structure because some operating expenses are shared among several participants.

Serengeti Wildlife Safari for Couples

Couples can arrange a private seven day safari or join an available group departure.

A private arrangement provides additional privacy and flexibility around game drive interests and photography stops.

Serengeti Wildlife Safari for Families

Families can also book the seven day itinerary.

The final safari arrangement should consider child ages, vehicle seating, accommodation, road travel and meal requirements.

Family specific needs should be communicated before confirmation.

Accommodation during the Safari

The seven day itinerary normally requires six overnight stays.

Accommodation may include camping, practical lodges, permanent tented properties or higher comfort options according to the confirmed package.

The exact accommodation names or campsites should be confirmed before final payment.

Serengeti Camping Safari

A camping version can be arranged according to the confirmed package.

The quotation should clearly identify campsites, tents and included camping equipment.

Sleeping bags and personal camping equipment should not automatically be assumed to be included unless specifically listed.

Serengeti Lodge Safari

Lodge or permanent tented accommodation can be arranged according to availability and preferred comfort level.

Property location can influence daily game drive logistics and the amount of road travel required.

The exact accommodation should therefore be confirmed in the final quotation.

Meals during the Safari

Meals are arranged according to the confirmed safari and accommodation package.

Picnic lunches are commonly used during full wildlife game drive days so that travellers can remain inside productive areas for longer periods.

Dietary requirements should be communicated in advance whenever possible.

Drinking Water

Drinking water may be supplied during game drives according to the confirmed package.

Alcoholic beverages and additional personal drinks are normally separate unless specifically included.

7 Day Serengeti Wildlife Safari Price

The exact price depends on the number of travellers, private or group joining arrangement, accommodation category, applicable Serengeti charges and transportation logistics.

A solo private traveller normally has a different per person cost from a couple or small group because vehicle and guide expenses are shared differently.

Camping, practical lodge and higher comfort accommodation also produce different overall package totals.

No current numerical price should be assumed until safari dates, traveller numbers and accommodation preferences are confirmed.

What Affects the Safari Cost?

  • Number of travellers
  • Private or group joining arrangement
  • Camping or lodge accommodation
  • Accommodation category and location
  • Applicable Serengeti park charges
  • Safari vehicle operation
  • Fuel and road distance
  • Professional safari guide

  • Starting and ending locations

Does This Safari Include Ngorongoro Crater?

No. The standard 7 Day Serengeti Wildlife Safari described here focuses specifically on Serengeti National Park.

Travellers wanting Ngorongoro Crater should select a Serengeti and Ngorongoro itinerary or request an extended route.

Does This Safari Include Tarangire?

No. Tarangire National Park is not included in this specific Serengeti focused itinerary.

A multi park northern Tanzania safari can be selected if Tarangire elephants and baobab landscapes are also priorities.

Does This Safari Include Lake Manyara?

No. Lake Manyara is not included.

The itinerary is designed to maximise wildlife viewing time inside Serengeti rather than divide the seven days among several parks.

7 Day Serengeti Safari after Kilimanjaro

The safari can be arranged after a Mount Kilimanjaro climb.

This provides a substantial wildlife extension for travellers already visiting northern Tanzania.

The overall schedule should allow enough recovery time before beginning the journey toward Serengeti.

7 Day Serengeti Safari before Kilimanjaro

The safari can also be arranged before climbing Kilimanjaro.

The final schedule should leave adequate time for the mountain briefing, equipment preparation and rest before trekking begins.

7 Day vs 6 Day Serengeti Wildlife Safari

A six day safari already provides substantial Serengeti wildlife viewing.

The seven day itinerary adds another full game drive day, providing additional flexibility for predators, photography, birdlife, seasonal herd movement and changing animal behaviour.

7 Day vs 5 Day Serengeti Wildlife Safari

A five day Serengeti safari provides a strong wildlife experience but has fewer full game drive days.

The seven day itinerary allows more time to revisit productive wildlife locations and explore different parts of the ecosystem.

Best Time for a Serengeti Wildlife Safari

Serengeti can be visited during different periods of the year.

Rainfall affects vegetation, road conditions, water availability and wildlife distribution.

The location of the Great Migration herds also changes naturally according to rainfall and fresh grazing.

Different seasons therefore provide different Serengeti experiences rather than one universally guaranteed best time.

Wildlife Photography

Seven days in Serengeti provides substantial opportunities for wildlife and landscape photography.

Possible subjects include lions, cheetahs, leopards, hyenas, wildebeest, zebra, elephants, giraffes, buffalo, gazelles, acacia landscapes and rocky kopjes.

Actual photography opportunities depend on animal location, road access, vegetation, weather and available light.
